Ecoist ‘Recycled’ Handbags
April 26, 2006
Ecoist attempt to combine fashion, functionality, and environmental awareness to provide stylish, useful, and durable products. They have an exciting range of handbags and other goods made from ‘recycled’ food wrappers.
The uniformity of the items achieved by using pre-consumer recycled waste, which is a shame. (Treehugger originally suggests calling them ‘Repurposed Waste Stream Handbags’.) We would like to see the variety and ’spice’ of post-consumer recycling reflected in a quirkier, actually unique product.

The hubby got me one of the Large Clutches in multi pattern for my birthday when Ecoist had a recent sale. I must say, I really do love it. It was much better quality than I had thought, although the zipper could be better. I can see this lasting a while.
To top it off, I’ve got at least 10 different compliments on the bag in the first day. At which point, I always said: it’s made from mis-print candy wrappers, diverting them from landfills!
We can convince people eco-fashion really is cool!
